I can’t read Japanese but I’ve played SM64 so much I don’t need to and MKart64 you don’t need to read anything. If you need help just use the mario wiki.
We got some cheap ass Japanese N64 games. Can’t play them on my NA console, lets fix that.
Tools:
4.5 Nintendo security bit – very cheap, check ebay.
A sm/med phillips screwdriver
A cutting tool of some sort (dremel, med. wire cutters + pliers , whatever you can make work.)
Pop the Jumper Pak out (or memory expansion).
Unscrew the 6 case screws with your 4.5 Nintendo security bit.
Top comes right off. On the underside is the dust cover/region lock.
Unscrew the the 2 phillips heads. The cartridge doors and springs may fall out, don’t loose your springs.
See the indents on the bottom of the NA cart, how they fit the shape of the dust cover.
And how the indents of the JP cart do not match up. Thats it… thats the region lock.
We are in the middle of a move and I am currently living with the In-laws. My shit is in storage. This is what I scrounged up in the garage.
Looks like an abortion…
That’s better..? GOOD ENOUGH!
Throw it back in your console by reversing earlier steps to disassemble. Don’t forget doors and springs.
Put in a memory Pak I pulled from another system.
Put Pak cover back. Done.
It’s fucking cool to see your kids playing the games you grew up with.
